Girl's Program

Mercy Education Project (MEP) offers free after school tutoring for girls in grades 2-12 who are at least one grade level behind and who live in or attend selected schools in Southwest Detroit.  The program includes free transportation (zip codes: 48209, 48216 and portions of 48208 and 48210,) a nutritious meal, a structured activity and one-to-one tutoring focused on math or reading.  THe program begins at the end of September and continues until the end of May. 

 

After School Program Schedule:

There are two (2) sessions Monday - Thursday from 3:50 pm-5:45 pm and from 5:00 pm-7:00 pm.

Each girl is assigned a day and session once they are enrolled.  We follow the Detroit Public School's schedule, unless otherwise indicated.

If there is no space right now, you/your child will be placed on a waiting list. If spaces open up during the year, we will call you.

 

All girls entering the program must:

  1. Take a pre-assesment in Reading and Math
  2. Complete all paperwork.
  3. Bring:
  • Proof of Address (Government ID card, driver’s license, bill or bank statement)
  • Proof of Income (Pay check stub, income tax form, Bridge Card, Medicaid Card, food stamps, Social Security Check/Statement, Welfare or Disability Check/Statement) AND
  • Copy of most recent report card

 

Transportation is available to and from southwest Detroit schools and homes within the transportation boundaries. (zip codes 48209, 48216, portions of 48210 and 48208)
